​​Course Structure

​

Class 1: Introduction (1.5 hours)

 

Objectives:

• Understand the structure and scoring of the TOEIC Writing test.

• Assess current writing skills through a diagnostic activity.

• Set personal goals for the course.

 

Activities:

• Overview of test components and scoring criteria.

• Analyze sample responses for each task type.

• Student diagnostic: short writing tasks on Picture Description, Email, and Essay.

Class 2: Picture Description (1.5 hours)

Objectives:

• Learn techniques to describe images clearly and concisely.

• Practice structuring a response for clarity and variety.

Activities:

​

• Analyze sample picture descriptions (high-scoring vs. low-scoring).

• Practice structuring descriptions with key elements: main subject, details, and actions.

• Timed practice and feedback.

Class 3: Email Writing (1.5 hours)

​

Objectives:

• Master the format and tone of TOEIC Emails.

• Develop skills for organizing ideas effectively and using formal language.

Activities:

• Explore proper email structure and organization and learn useful language for responding to emails.

• Analyze common mistakes test takers make when responding to an email on the TOEIC exam.

• Practice exercizes in writing emails with clear organization and appropriate vocabulary.

Classes 4-6: Essay Writing (3 sessions, 1.5 hours each)

 

Objectives:

• Develop a strong thesis and topic sentences.

• Build coherent, detailed body paragraphs with linking phrases.

• Practice writing clear and impactful conclusions.

 

Activities:

• Class 4: Introduction to opinion essays. Focus on essay structure, thesis statements and introductions.

• Class 5: Writing topic sentences, using linking words and writing a strong conclusion. Write a skeleton essay.

• Class 6: Explore essay scoring, review structure, develop supporting ideas for body paragraphs and prepare to write a full essay.

Class 7: Wrap-Up and Full Test Strategy (1.5 hours)

 

Objectives:

• Review key strategies for all test sections.

• Address individual questions or problem areas.

• Explore next steps for writing improvement.

 

Activities:​

• Personalized feedback and final tips for success.

• Discuss ways to continue preparing for the TOEIC Writing exam and ways to manage time effectively during the exam.
